Peluvas Roaming All Over Maui

"I’ve been a devoted hiker for decades, always relying on heavy hiking shoes or boots that put an inch of rubber between my foot and the ground. I started wearing Peluva Strand Lightweight Trainers for routine walks around town and eventually decided to try the Strand ATR for hiking. The trails in the Maui high country or lava paths along the ocean can be rough and rugged, so I wasn’t sure about a minimalist shoe.

The results have been fantastic. I love the lightweight feel of the ATR and how they grip the terrain so well. It's corny but I feel more like I am walking on the Earth, which is the whole point of hiking.  And, unlike hiking boots that keep my toes compressed, Peluvas allow each toe to move freely, so I don't have "hot spots" inside the shoe that develop into blisters.  Especially for muddy conditions, I'd much rather have Peluvas so I can use my whole foot to carefully balance myself.  

I also use ATRs for walking around town on pavement.  The buffed up tread pattern helps me stay comfortable when I’m walking 20 minutes twice a day on concrete to and from work. I almost never have to wear conventional shoes anymore, but when I do, my feet feel tense.  As soon as I slip into the Peluvas again, my feet are so happy!

Right now, believe it or not, I am actually using five different pairs of Peluvas!:

• Old Strand Sport Mesh: For my nightly walk after dinner in my neighborhood.  They are doing well, not really worn out yet.
• New ATRs: I use these only on hiking trails, not concrete. This ensures I can maintain a robust tread pattern for the life of the shoe. Tread looks great but I got them all dirty on a muddy trail recently. They machine wash and air dry nicely.
• Older Strand ATRs: They are wearing down more quickly because I walk one mile each way on concrete to work every day. 
• Oldest Strand ATRs: These are my beach shoes, pretty sandy and beat up. They have a lot of concrete mileage but they are still great for casual beach footwear - much better than a flip flop. 
• Court Ad-Ins: I’m a devoted pickleball player and I absolutely adore these shoes. So comfortable and great for side-to-side court movement. I switched out the stock laces for some after-market nylon laces for easy on and off."
