Claudette is Sprinting to Longevity in Peluvas!
"I'm 56, French Canadian, and mom to two boys (18 and 20) and a small dog. Fitness is
the constant in my life that keeps me feeling youthful. The first hour of every day is
mine, no exceptions — I'm up at 6:30am, weekends included. I meditate, do gratitude
journaling, read self-development books, take my supplements (creatine, EAA’s, vitamin
D and Omega 3) and get in 4-5,000 steps - usually a walk outside or aerobics in
my home gym when the weather doesn't cooperate. I lift heavy weights three times a
week too! I know it sounds like something out of a wellness textbook, but I promise it's
just my normal life.
In 2021 at age 51, I ran 1.000 kilometers over the course of the year (I also did 11 chin-ups on my birthday, maybe just as impressive?) After all that running in padded running shoes, I ended up with some knee and hip pain. Of course, now I know long distance running at this age is not a good thing. I tell my former endurance peers this, hoping some will listen and absorb the message. As Mark and Brad Kearns detailed in the book, Born To Walk, humans are really meant to walk extensively, lift weights regularly, and sprint occasionally.
Last summer I trained on a sledding hill near my house wearing a 12-pound weighted vest, running up it again and again. Now I walk in my vest twice a week with 20 pounds. Recently sprinted 100 meters in 17 seconds - not bad for my age! I can definitely outrun every one of my friends! After four sprints I
decided to try going hard for an entire lap, and completed 400 meters in 1:55.
According to Brad Kearns' YouTube presentation about the 400 meters and his comparison charts for 400-meter performances by decade, this is in the Outstanding category for longevity potential! I do all of my sprinting in my Peluvas, but don't try this at home as it requires a lot of adaptation. I've actually taught myself to sprint with correct midfoot landing over a balanced center of gravity, and the Peluvas help me increase my awareness of correct technique. The only time you won’t catch me in Peluvas is when I do the Norwegian 4 x 4 workout. I switch to running shoes for more protection.
Note: I think my endorsement of Peluvas should mean something extra special, since
I'm a lifelong shoe connoisseur. I own over 100 pairs of fashion shoes, and work part-
time in a footwear boutique since I love being around the scene so much! But the
shoes I wear most often are my Peluvas. I don’t just wear them for walking and
sprinting. I also wear them to run errands and to some appointments. Sometimes
people stop me and ask me about my shoes. I am more than happy to them all the
benefits! So, that’s my story. You too can have a success story. Get a pair of Peluvas, start walking, and the story will write itself!"
